We are learning about our we can be transformed from captives of sexual brokenness and be transformed into Christ-like men through the renewing of our minds. The renewal and transformation part is done by the Spirit. However, He works in response to our asking Him and us doing our part.

Our part is prayer. Asking the Spirit to fill us and help us walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Our part is offering our bodies to God everyday as a living sacrifice. Our part is being guardians of our minds and making the choice of what we allow to enter.

To get the garbage out we pray that the Spirit would tear down the strongholds that have developed in our thinking for decades. And now the part of the verse for today is … 2 Corinthians 10:5 –

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, *and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”*

Taking every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ … sounds impossible doesn’t it? Or is that just an excuse to just not try? I will tell you it is possible. It takes time and practice … and you may never get perfect at it, but up till now you have allowed a flood of improper thoughts to gush into your brain.

This skill is an amazing one and has benefits not only in the area of sexual thoughts. It can be applied to depressive thoughts, fear, anxiety … all kinds to improper thinking. And it is not some complicated system.

Notice the phrase … “take captive”. That is an action you must do … the Spirit can help you but you have to make it an act of your will to take an improper thought, identify it as such and ask the Spirit to help you.

Next notice what it says to do with the thought … “make it obedient to Christ”. I am not sure exactly what that means but for me it has been grabbing hold of the thought, identifying it as something that is wrong and not wanted and then giving it to Jesus and asking Him to throw it out of my mind.

I am telling you the more you do it the easier and more quickly this can be done. Tomorrow we will look at the most important step in renewing our minds. Happy thought grabbing.
