Socrates said, “”The unexamined life is not worth living.” Powerful words in today’s world of escape through entertainment. We feel like we work hard at our jobs and have overcommitted ourselves with responsibilities with both family and church. However, have you every really taken a loot at how you do spend your time?
I remember in graduate school we did a study of how we spent our time. We kept track every half hour of what we were doing and wrote it down on a sheet with 48, 1/2 hour time slots. 168 hours carefully recorded and then examined and categorized. It was very revealing,
What if you did that? Really examined how you spend your time. How much is frittered away in things that are not of value to you? And I am not just talking about the time that porn absorbs. Many times guys can enter time warps where before you know it hours have gone by. But what about just watching TV or playing games on your tablet, phone or xbox? If channel surfing to see what is on over 200+ channels is a part of your evening routine … you are wasting tons of time and probably getting yourself into trouble.
What if instead you used that time to grow and develop something in your life that is positive? Beyond the time given to deepening your relationship with God, building more intimacy with your spouse and loving your kids. What if instead of mind numbing entertainment you spent time with mind stimulating things … like learning something new or doing something you have never done before?
I challenge you to examine your life … examine your schedule and see if there are things you could be investing in that will produce fruit in you and in others. 30 minutes of exercise would be a good place to start.
