Healing.5

unnamed (5)

God has already begun a significant amount of healing in your life.

  1. When you were spiritually dead in sin He healed you and made you alive in Christ.
  2. When you believed He also placed His Spirit inside your body so that you would have a source of power from Him to be transformed into a more Christ-like man.
  3. Yesterday, we learned that as part of that whole salvation deal you have been made into a new creation.  Old things have passed away and new things have come.

Today I want to talk about the healing that God has done relative to you and your sinful nature.  You need to think of yourself as having an old you and a new you.  The old you was before Christ and the new you is after you received Christ, when you were born again.  There was a BC you and now there is an AD you.  That AD you is the new creation and you are significantly different from the BC you.

One of those major differences is that before Christ … you were enslaved to your sin nature or your flesh.  Your flesh dominated your choices and you, in your heart, were rebellious and selfish.  That flesh had a monopoly and pretty much controlled the old you.  So there was the old you and the old you was under the power of your flesh.

Now there is the new you.  No longer spiritually dead but alive in Christ.  The new you has the Spirit dwelling in you.  You are a new creation … indwelled by the Spirit … BUT … the flesh still remains in you.  That is why you still sin.  However, something significant has happened.  That flesh no longer has a monopoly on you.  It power over you to be your master and direct your actions has been BROKEN … and now in Christ you have a choice.  See this in Romans 6:6-7 …

“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin–because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.”

We died with Christ.  And in having died with Christ we have been set free from sin being our master.  We have a choice of who our master is going to be.  Either we allow Christ to be our master by living and walking filled with the Spirit or we will slide back into making our flesh our master.  Study Romans 6 and you will come to this conclusion.  You have a choice.

That is part of the healing God has already done for you in this area of sexual brokenness.  Everyday, we have a choice.  Before Christ we did not have a choice.  There was our old self with our sinful nature.  Now there is our new self, our new creation … with the Spirit and yet the flesh remains.  But it’s power to control us has been broken.

Who will you choose to be your master today?
