Recovery Demands You Get a Bigger Box

Kids in Box

This week we are going to be talking about some steps you will need to take to help you maintain purity for the long haul. These same principles are important if you are just starting out in recovery. So I guess they are important to all of you no matter where we are.

It starts with an attitude … like everything else in life. The attitude of someone who uses sex inappropriately or has an addiction is one of …

ISOLATION AND SELF-INDULGENCE.

We isolate because we are ashamed of what we do to sexually act out and we do this even though we know it is hurting ourselves, our relationships with spouse, family and friends and can often involve exploiting and using other people so that we can have an orgasm. It is saying, “To hell with everyone else I want to do what I want to do!”

Some think of it as their own particular right but when our sin is exposed we all feel shame … which should say something to the reality that what we are doing is wrong.

If isolation and a self-indulgent attitude are where we lose the battle and fall on a regular basis … then maintaining a walk of purity will be the opposite … or

COMMUNITY AND A HEART FOR OTHERS.

This is clearly taught in Scripture in this Philippians 2:1-11. This passage is rich in biblical truth that is a blueprint for living. If we want to be like Christ then these are the footsteps that he left for us to follow. Here is how the passage begins.

“Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”

We will begin to break it down tomorrow.
