20 Things that I Believe about Porn and Sexual Brokenness

 In Uncategorized

Over a year ago a friend of mine challenged me to write down 20 things that I believe about this issue of pornography and sexual brokenness. That was an excellent exercise for me, and I wanted to share these with you.  That was over a year ago but I thought as a follow up from yesterday’s email I would share them again with some of you, but they will be new for many.  I’m going to do five a day for the next four days and hope this information will stir your souls about this global pandemic issue.

  1. I believe that every Christian adult and teenager faces some measure of sexual temptation every single day. Many are exposed to pornography before the age of 12.

  1. I believe that right now in our culture anybody from the age of about 10 and older can be watching hard core pornography in a matter of 30 seconds through the internet or files they have stored on the computers, tablets, smartphones, in their (dark) Cloud, or fantasies they have stored in their minds.

  1. I believe that in our world sex has become the fastest, cheapest, and most effective drug of choice for people to escape the stress and pain of their lives. It’s instant availability, at virtually no cost and no outwardly recognizable after effects can flood the brain with chemicals that help them forget their problems and have a moment of intense pleasure. It is the quickest and best “fix” that fixes nothing.

  1. I believe this quote from a U.S. Department of Justice memo …

“Never before in the history of telecommunications media in the United States has so much indecent (and obscene) material been so easily accessible by so many minors in so many American homes with so few restrictions.”  (Written in 1996 before wireless broadband and smartphones.)

  1. I believe that pornography is the most significant problem in Christian churches and Christian homes with over 60% of all Christian men being addicted to porn, over 20% of Christian women struggling with sexual sin and these shocking statistics from Covenant Eyes report on Pornography Statistics;
  • 90% of boys are exposed to porn before the age of 18.
  • 68% of divorce cases involve one party meeting a new lover over the internet.
  • 67% of young men and 49% of young women say viewing porn is an acceptable way to express one’s sexuality.
  • 68% of young adult men and 18% of women use porn at least once every week.

Friends, apart from the Middle Ages this might be the darkest hour for the Church, the Body of Christ of which we are all a part.

It is not the outward persecution that I am speaking about, although there is much of that happening in the world, it is the inward toxification and moral collapse within the lives of believers that is destroying a person’s ability to have true community because of their fear of discovery.

It is the isolation so many are in which makes them prime targets for the prowling lion seeking whom he may devour. It is those imprisoned by their shame who are not reporting for duty inside the church because of their secret sins or worse yet do show up but are there in the flesh and not filled with the Spirit.

If you have a burden for this ministry, then join me on the 180 S.W.A.T. Team.  Members who will be Strongly Warring Against Temptation.  The members of this team are committing to praying daily for 180 Ministries.  Praying for the Power of the Spirit to help us fight this good fight.  Asking the Lord to tear down strongholds and footholds in the lives of sex addicts to be torn down.  Praying for wisdom for myself and the Board of Directors as we plan our next attack to rescue another man, another marriage, and another family.

I will be producing a Sunday report to all SWAT Team members on Sunday with updates on what is happening and what we need focused prayer on for that coming week.

Just email me and ask to join me on the 180 SWAT Team!
