Strongholds and Footholds Our Enemy Uses
One of the main reasons recovery from sexual brokenness is so difficult for so many Christians is because we underestimate the enemy we are up against. The Scriptures are very clear about this enemy we all face in this world. For example;
We are told that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of darkness. (Ephesians 6:10-12)
We are told that the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
Jesus calls satan the father of lies so when he speaks he always lies. (John 8)
We are told that we should not give our enemy the devil a foothold in our lives through sin. (Ephesians 4:27)
We have been given weapons for the demolishing of strongholds our enemy has established in our lives. (2 Corinthians 10:4)
Now we can do one of three things with these warnings. We can ignore them, which the vast majority of believers do to their own peril. We can believe they do not exist or at least not in our own lives, again a foolish decision. Or, we can believe that these warnings are real and our enemy uses them against us to have a powerful impact on the way we think and the way we act.
The ways our enemies work can be numerous. One of the most common ways is to get us to believe a lie or lies about ourselves. That is why Jesus said we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free. However, people have spoken lies in our lives that we have believed and these lies are then used by our enemies to keep us locked in fear. Add to that the use of sex or other addictive behaviors and shame fills us and drives us into isolation.
The Good News is …
“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
God has begun a good work in you and He promises to bring it to completion. He has placed the Spirit inside of your body and His work is to transform you into a Christ-like person and to experience His power in our lives.
Do you know what the biggest hurdle to overcome these enemies really is? It is allowing the fear and shame you feel keep you isolated and your sin kept a secret. I did this for almost 10 years and it nearly destroyed me, my marriage, my family, and my ministry. Now, twelve and a half years later I am shouting it from the housetops; “You can be FREE from sexual addictions. Jesus has promised us freedom and He can do it for you!!!”
