Is Healing from Sex Addiction Even Possible?

Is healing from your sex addiction even possible?  That seems like a strange question to ask people who know Christ as their Savior and have read about Jesus in the Gospels. To refresh your memory let’s look at a few of the miracles Jesus did while here on earth.

One of the first miracles Jesus did was something the people of Israel had never seen before.  Jesus healed a man with leprosy.  Leprosy was a terminal disease.  They were never healed and died a slow and painful death.  Nobody would touch a leper. They would not even come close to one, crossing to the other side of the road if need be.

But this leper came up to Jesus and said; “If You are willing, You, can make me clean.” To the amazement of the crowd, Jesus touched the leper and said; “I am willing, be cleansed!”  And the leprosy immediately left him and he was clean.  I choose this example because internally sex addicts feel like the lepers of Jesus’s day.  We can believe that if anyone really knew about our sex addiction and the things we have done they would get as far away from us as possible.

Jesus did many more miracles during His ministry on earth. Some have recorded 37 miracles recorded in the Gospels, however, there were many more because on several occasions Jesus healed multitudes of people.  But there are three I want us to focus on right now because on 3 different occasions Jesus brought dead people back to life.  They were;

  • The daughter of Jairus in Mark 5:35-43.
  • The son of the widow at Nain in Luke 7:11-17 whose body was being carried to be buried.
  • Lazarus who had been buried for 4 days – John 11.

I encourage you to take some time today and read all three of those passages.  We need to understand that Jesus has the power to heal anyone and everyone who has the faith to believe.  Sometimes His healing is instant as in these illustrations.  Other times His healing is a process that takes time and effort by the one seeking healing.

My own experience has been healing over a long period of time.  Don’t fall into the Zap Trap where if you pray for healing and it does not come, then you give up and make the false assumption that God must not want you healed.

Of course, He wants you healed.  We know specifically from the Bible that the will of God is for all of us to walk in sexual purity. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 says;

It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.”

Again, in Ephesians 5:1-3;

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.”

I hope you can now believe that your being healed from your sexual addiction is not only possible but is indeed the specific will of God for you. So, you should be asking for His healing but also be willing to do the things we must do for the healing to happen.
