The Battle I Cannot Win but Can Not afford to Lose – blogpost

As we learned yesterday, we are in a war.  There are three enemies we deal with every day.  They are resilient, ongoing, and powerful.  We have followed our sin nature for years and it has hardwired our brains to expect the release of sexual chemicals released as we are being aroused.  These habits are not easily changed.

We live in a world that is immersed in sexual options and thanks to the internet hardcore porn can be accessed at any time and in any place. Men and women can hook up for sex just by using an app.  Eventually, the power of the experience wears off and we are in search for something more tempting and more exciting than what we have seen.  This only leads us deeper into darker and more vile behaviors.

Lastly, we face the powers of demonic influence.  Invisible and not easily detected they have the ability to influence our thinking and our actions.  The Bible warns us to not give the devil a “foothold” and warns us “strongholds” that need to be torn down.

Our actual reality is that we are outmanned, outgunned, and behind enemy lines.

Now in light of the powerful forces acting against us let’s look at what we have and have been given to fight this war.  Here are true spiritual realities about you and what God has done.

First, you are a new creation.  We all used to be dead in our sins and transgressions, followers of the ways of this world and separated from God.  But in spite of all that and despite God knowing all of our sins; past, present, and future God, because of His great love for us, raised us from the dead, gave us new life in Christ, and has turned us into a “new creation.”

The old you was crucified with Christ and there is now a new you.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

I was dead in sin but now I am alive in Christ. You want God to do a miracle in your life?  Well, I am here to tell you that He has already done one.  You have been resurrected from being dead in your sins to being alive in Christ and forever a member of God’s family.  And this is all because of God’s mercy and grace and the finished work of Christ on the Cross.

Paul says it this way in Colossians 1:13-14;

“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

William Barclay notes four things that are the result of God snatching us out of the domain of darkness and transferring us to the kingdom of His Son.

  • We have been transferred from darkness into the light.
  • We have been transferred from slavery to freedom.
  • We have been transferred from condemnation to forgiveness.
  • We have been transferred from the power of Satan to the power of God.

Listen, no matter how bad the battle looks for you right now, or how far you have fallen from God, or how many promises you have broken to Him know this truth for certain.  You are a member of God’s family and He will never let you go. You are a new creation in Christ. God has given you new life and He is going to keep working on you if you will allow Him to do that.
