Why Aren’t There More Parties in Church? – blogpost
This is the question that has come into my mind as I dig ever deeper into an understanding of sex addicts seeking recovery from their brokenness. I teach them about the full and absolute forgiveness of all their sins by Jesus shedding His blood on the Cross. We affirm that when He said, “It is Finished!” He meant it and then He sat down having offered His body as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
We learn that no matter how deep into sexual sin we have fallen we never fall out of the grace and love of God. We try to comprehend the reality that God the Father has sealed us with the Holy Spirit as a deposit of our inheritance in heaven. And that even when we were dead in our sins and transgressions, following the ways and desires of this world, and were by our very nature objects of His wrath …
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus…”
Pardon my crudity, but HOLY CRAP, do you even begin to grasp what that verse is saying??? Even though we are still in the here and now trying to follow Jesus, with the anchor of our sin nature dragging behind us and getting caught in the pure evil filth of the world around us. Plus, having to do battle not only against flesh and blood but against the demonic forces of evil… in spite of all that we are seated in Christ in the heavenlies. We will spend eternity in heaven away from all evil, all sin, all flesh, and all demonic powers.
We will never ever sin again. We will never make another bad choice. We will never fail or fall or fluctuate off course. There will be no sin, no evil, no sickness, no disease, no problems, no being late, no racism, no hunger, no war, no death, no jealousy, no lust, no sexual sin, no taxes, no pain, and all gain.
God is going to take everything that is bad and broken in this world, put it all in one big box and throw it into the lake of fire and we will celebrate His goodness, eat smores and have a party.
Where is the hilarious joy that we should be feeling because of what God has already done for us? He has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ. He has chosen us before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him. In love, He has already adopted us to be His children according to the KIND intention of His Will. He has redeemed us and forgiven us, and, in the end, it is all going to work out. We will end up perfected forever.
Did you know there is only one verse in the entire New Testament that uses the word “awe?” For years people have been attaching to the word awe a sense of fear. We are taught that we should live in the fear of the Lord. That being in church or in God’s presence there is to be this reverential awe that calls for eyes to be cast down, heads bowed and being silent before Him.
No wonder the younger generations are not buying into the church. Since when does godliness mean silence and being still. Are we called to preach the Word as a means of piling on guilt and creating legalistic institutions where variety, color, creativity, and joy are not welcome?
That is not God’s idea of the Church. The church should be a hospital where broken people come and find love, grace, and community. Where they find support, encouragement, and healing. Where they can worship with their whole heart and celebrate the work God our Father, Jesus our Lord, and the Holy Spirit has done and is doing in our lives.
Party On, Church!!!
