Have You Ever Kissed a Red-Hot Burning Ember?
Isaiah finds himself standing in The Temple in front of the Lord God Almighty and he is fearing for his life. He sees the Lord Yahweh seated on His throne, lofty and exalted. The train of His robe is filling the Temple, i.e. it is huge but then again so is the Lord.
A multitude of angels called Seraphim are flying overhead. These angels appear as white-hot flaming beings who are covering their eyes with two wings, covering their feet with two wings, and with the other two wings, they are flying. They are calling out to one another;
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts,
The whole earth is full of His glory.”
The sound of these angels is so powerful that even the foundation stones of the Temple are trembling. And so is Isaiah because he believes that nobody can see the Lord and live. He cries out;
“Woe is me, for I am ruined!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I live among a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.”
Then he watches an angel zoom down to the altar and he picks up a red-hot burning ember and flies directly at him holding the ember in tongs. And he touches Isaiah’s lips with the 1000-degree ember.
However, God is not going to kill him. The Lord wants to purify him. God’s purpose for Isaiah and for us is not pain and punishment but purification and holiness. And then Isaiah hears these unexpected and beautiful words;
“…your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven.”
To all my friends who are struggling in sexual brokenness, who have battled for years and even decades and we feel we are so filthy and pathetic in the sight of our Holy God … let us learn this lesson. Because our God, the Lord Almighty, is also our Father and His love for us never ends.
He has taken away all our sinful actions and all or our sins have been forgiven. It was not the placing of a burning coal to our lips. It was the placing of His Son on the Cross that has purchased forever forgiveness of all our sins. It was not the searing of our flesh but the tearing of Jesus’s body, nailed to the cross and slowly suffocating to death over 6 long hours before He cried out; “It is Finished!!!” and died.
The shedding of His Blood and the giving of His life as a sacrifice for all of our sins, that was the cost for our forgiveness and it has been PAID IN FULL. I do not think we will ever be able to fully appreciate that until, like Isaiah, we are standing before the throne of Jesus and we have entered heaven where we will live forever. An everlasting future where there is no sin, no evil, no lust, and no porn.
A place where everything has always and forever will be holy. Where there is no evil at all and everything is perfected including ourselves. Where we will discover God’s eternal purpose in choosing us to be His children. Where the battles of this life are over, and we will be utterly amazed by the glory of God our Father, Jesus our Savior and Lord, and the Holy Spirit our comforter and counselor.
Since that is going to happen and will truly be the case does it not make sense to daily offer our body to Him as a living sacrifice and to ask Him to fill us with the Spirit? Does it not make sense to walk in the Spirit so that we do not fulfill the desires of our flesh? Does it not make sense to have nothing to do with the sins of the flesh and to reach out for God’s help and for the help of other believers whenever we are being tempted.
Of course, it makes perfect sense. Your problem is that you are still living in isolation thinking you can stop this on your own. I could not do it and if you are reading this email or listening to this podcast you have not been able to do it either.
