Does God Really Want to Heal You.2? blog
Yesterday, I showed you from Scripture passages that tell us that God really wants to heal us so that we become more holy and more like Jesus. He wants us to escape the corruption that is in the world by lust because all sin wants to do is under the illusion of pleasure and gain ends up giving us pain and loss. Every day we have the opportunity to choose Jesus to be our master or we will be mastered by our sin and experience the destruction it always ultimately brings.
That is not God’s plan for any of us. He has saved us so that He can continue to save us. He has justified us by the full payment of Jesus on the Cross so that He might be able to sanctify us before we die and go to heaven. Why? Because doing good in good for us. When we do good, we help not only ourselves but those around us. When we do good to others, we are also helping ourselves in the process.
Yes, we are surrounded in this world by opportunities to sin and our smartphones have put an adult book and video store right inside of our pockets. Unlimited access to what our sinful flesh is craving which has only grown deeper and stronger by years of addictive behavior. So, where does the healing come in?
God’s healing from our sexual brokenness comes in three ways. The First one has already been completely done and that is according to Ephesians 2;
“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins … But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)”
We were all spiritually dead in our sins and separated from God, but God made us alive together with Christ. So, every morning when you get up and look in the mirror think to yourself; “Wow, I look pretty good for a guy who used to be spiritually dead!” From being dead in sin to being alive in Christ I would say is a huge step in being healed.
The Second one has also already been completed and it is equally huge. God has placed His Spirit inside of your body from the moment you accepted Christ. How huge is that!!! The Spirit of God dwells inside of your body. The same Spirit who before the creation of the Universe was hovering over the chaos brought everything into order when God the Son spoke things into existence.
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.”
Now if the Spirit can bring the Universe into order don’t you think He can do something with the chaos of your life? He dwells inside of you and His purpose is to help you walk in the Spirit, live a holy life, and not fulfill the desires of the flesh.
His Spirit is the antidote to the sin of this world and powerful to help us stand strong against the demonic forces of this world. The world has Satan ruling over it but you have the Spirit of God dwelling in you and who do you think has more power? If Satan and the Spirit were arm wrestling or in a tug-of-war who do you think would win? The Spirit is not only a little more powerful than satan but He is infinitely more powerful than the puny created demon whose in not omnipotent like the Spirit and is not omnipresent like the Spirit.
Now for the third key part of healing has not already been done it is something we all have to work at every day. That is the part of healing that happens when we live protected in a community of believers who are helping one another.
Our sinful nature is strong, and we have been developing it for years. The sinful world has made porn omnipresent and available in a matter of seconds and our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the demonic powers of evil. We are in a war 24/7 which is why we MUST be living in a community of other believers who will hold us accountable weekly and support us daily.
That is why we started 180 Ministries in February 2009. 180 was at our first meeting nine men meeting with two leaders. Because of the tremendous need within the body of Christ due to a majority of believers addicted to sexual sin we started to grow.
Nine years and 10 months later here is where the 180 Ministries Community stands.
- 80 men meet weekly at Vineyard Columbus with 16 leaders.
- 6 other churches in the Columbus area and one in Duluth are helping another 80 men.
- 2100 people in 55 nations around the world are being encouraged daily by my emails/podcasts of encouragement 6 days a week.
- 9 Online Support Teams meet during the week with 81 men in those groups.
On the drawing board we hope to be starting more 180’s in local churches and we have that all set up for any church that wants to have one. We are in the infant stages of a 180 Women’s Online Support Team. And early in 2019, I am going to be starting a 180 Online Support Team for Teenagers.
You are part of this community. And for many of you, the next step is to talk to your pastors about starting a 180 Ministry at your church and or joining one of our Online Support Teams. For most of you, this is the one thing that many of you are missing. Strong weekly accountability with daily support.
