Lie # 2 – “I Will Never Be Able to Stop” – blog
Today we are looking at the second lie almost all of us have believed. I can absolutely positively guarantee that is a lie because eventually we will all be changed and made perfect. Here is what the Bible teaches us.
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
“So also, is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.” 1 Corinthians 15:42-43
Listen, my friends, our perfection is guaranteed. We can experience the transformation by the Spirit now and in our future here on earth. However, this battle is temporary. When we die, or the Lord returns these mortal bodies will be changed into an immoral body that will live forever. Now, as you can imagine, forever is a long time in a place where there is no satan and evil, no sin, no fallen world, and no sin nature or flesh living inside of us.
So, the end result for all believers in Christ who have been born again into the family of God by faith in Christ and belief in His death and resurrection is an eternity in heaven and none of us will ever sin again.
Now there are two ways we can think about it. One is very good, and one is very bad.
Let’s start with the Bad. To think of this in a bad way is to rationalize that since we are going to spend eternity in heaven with God and never sin again then it really does not matter if I continue in sin here on earth. Are you kidding me??? Look at what sin has already done in your life. Choosing sin as our master always leads to death. It harms us, our loved ones and keeps us from experiencing God’s will for our lives here and now.
Sin leads to suffering either from its own consequences or from the disciplining hand of God our Father who disciplines us because He loves us. So, if as a believer you choose to continue in sexual sin it will destroy your life and your relationships. You are reading or listening to this because of the pain sexual sin has caused in your life.
Now for the Good. What we can experience here on this earth as we continue to try and master being filled with and walking in the Spirit is what Jesus called the Abundant Life. Being filled with the Spirit brings the fruit of the Spirit. Enduring in this battle and having our faith tested brings endurance and we grow stronger. We can even begin to feel good about the victories God brings to us as we work together with Him and walk in obedience.
God never just asks us to flee youthful lusts and then have a miserable life. He wants you and me to experience Him in the here and now so that our lives can have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and SELF-CONTROL. To experience the power of the Spirit in transforming us into people more and more like Jesus the Christ.
Yes, all of us will eventually stop sinning completely and be perfected forever but until then God has placed His Spirit inside of our bodies to that He can empower us to walk in less sin and grow in godliness. I want to experience as much of that as I possibly can before I get to heaven because what He has for me every day is so much better than living in sexual sin which only wants to destroy me and my loved ones.
