How to Avoid a Wasted Life! blog

 In Daily Encouragement

The first step we must do daily is simple and yet profound.  We are told to do this by Paul in Romans 12:1-2.  Many of you have this verse memorized but let’s look at it carefully today.

“Therefore, I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.”

The word “therefore” indicates that what he is going to say should flow out of what he has been saying.  So, he is urging us because the mercies of that we have already received from God to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. This action is the only reasonable reaction to what God has already done for us through Christ.  In fact, the word urge is literally the word for shouting or of a commander addressing the troops.  Like a football coach at halftime urges his team.  Paul, with power and emphasis, is shouting to us that we need to do this.

And if it is important for every believer to be doing this daily, take it up a notch for believers who are addicted to any sinful behavior.  He has the megaphone to his lips and it is planted against our head and he is shouting, because of all God has done for you, this is the appropriate response.

Offer your body to God as a Living Sacrifice!!!

This is a call to surrender our lives to Him and yield ourselves to Him and allow Him to do whatever He wants to do in our lives.  So, if you have a motorcycle with a side-car, who is driving and who is just along for the ride?

Probably we are the ones with our hands on the steering bar and deciding where we are headed and when we go.  Jesus is just along for the ride or maybe you did not even invite Him to join you.  It is get up quickly and head off to work.  You are too busy to yield yourself to Him. You think …

What you have to do is more important

than who He wants you to be.

Heck, He isn’t even in the side-car and you have left Him behind and maybe will see Him on Sunday. Except for one thing … His Spirit is dwelling inside of you.

How long do you want to travel down this road of sexual brokenness, leaving Jesus on the sideline and pursuing your will for your life?  God has saved you so that He can use you and He has works for you to do which He prepared for you to do. Have you ever thought of asking God to see His To Do List for your life before you open your calendar and look at your own?

Here is a very real result of believers not knowing and not doing what we are told to do – the act of daily offering our BODIES to God.  We by default end up using our bodies to sin.

Do you know that we all have an obligation?  Since God has purchased us by the death of Christ, chosen us before creation, adopted us into His family, sealing us with the Spirit, and giving us not only the free gift of salvation but the eternal gift of everlasting life … we have an obligation.  God wants a return on His investment. Here it is in Romans 8:12;

“So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh—for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

These are strong and powerful words.  For years if not decades we have been leaving Jesus at home or making Him ride in the side-car or back seat. We have played the game titled “Part-time Christian” and seen us lose every time and sometimes every day.

Perhaps this addiction is God’s way of rubbing our nose in it in an effort to make us sick of it.

Like, when my cats are kittens and poop on the carpet, I take them and touch their nose gently to it as a way of telling them to not shit in my house.  As soon as I put them down, they are gone in a flash having learned a rather stinky lesson.

You want to be in control and run your own life?  You want to keep indulging in the sins of the flesh for their pleasure while God reminds you every time afterward that this pleasure is causing a lot of pain.  It is a fantasy of sexual pleasure when in reality it is just another pile of shit someone is going to have to clean up.

When you have had enough of that, start offering your body to Him daily as a living sacrifice which is declared by God to be holy and blameless by the finished work of Jesus.  Invite Him to be in control and you go along for the ride.  I guarantee you He has some great places to take you and some great things to do.
