Transformation is Your Transportation Out of Sexual Sin – blog

As much as people complain about our fast-paced society with all of its technology, instant everything and even one of the most powerful men in the world who tweets, there are a lot of good benefits to it all.  I can communicate with people all over the world instantly and actually see their faces and hear their voices clearly.

What is lagging behind is our ability to literally travel at the speed of light. Maybe like we saw them do in Star Trek which first aired Thursday, September 8, 1966.  Living people could step into the Transporter, their bodies turned into energy and instantly sent to any place to which they set the coordinates.

We have progressed from crawling to walking, walking to running, running to riding on animals, riding on animals to riding on something with wheels, riding on something with wheels to flying in something with wings and jets.  Seems like we have been stuck here for a long time.  When is the next mode of faster transportation going to show up?

There is no such thing as the Transporter we have seen on Star Trek.  However, there is a Transformer.  The Transformer is not interested in changing our location so that we can see and do things someplace else.  He is interested in changing our behavior by transforming us from how we used to act in sin to who we can be in Christ.  It is not transportation from where we were to where we will be.  It is a transformation from who we were to who He wants us to be.

I know many of us live our lives dejected, afraid, alone, and ashamed. We have come to believe that because we are not able to stop sexual sin then there must be something wrong with us.  That we are broken inside and doomed to a life of sexual sin.  These are the exact words that the Apostle Paul cried out in Romans 7:24;

 “Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?”

I don’t know about you, but I get a lot of comfort from that verse.  I know, that sounds really strange, but consider this.  Who is writing these words … the Apostle Paul.  And who was Paul?  Perhaps the greatest Christian since Jesus who wrote 13 of the 27 books of the New Testament. He was also used in a powerful way to spread the Gospel all over the Middle-East and into present-day Europe.

This incredible man of God who was beaten, rejected, tormented, and imprisoned is getting ready to write what might be the most powerful chapter in the Bible is crying out that He is a Wretched Man???  He does not say he was a wretched man.  He says;

Wretched man that I AM!!!

Now let me float a thought past you that will sound weird, but I like to do weird so here we go.

What if being in this battle with our flesh is part of the Normal Christian Life?  What if this is what it is like for most believers?  What if every believer on this earth are struggling in some way by some besetting sin?  Maybe it is not sex but addictions to drugs, alcohol, gambling, food, power, money, pride, arrogance, lying, cheating … and a hundred other sins.

What if every Christian is in recovery from something and is fighting this battle to find freedom in Christ?  And the reason everybody is struggling against some form of sin or sins is that they have tried their best to stop sinning but failed so many times.

Listen … this is a really important thought.  All of us, before coming to Christ, were dead in our sins and transgressions.  We all …

“…formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.” (Eph 2:1-3)

But in spite of all that, because of His great love with which he loved us, He made us alive with Christ.  If God has a 12 Step program then the first step is an incredible miracle.  We went from being dead in our sins and transgressions to be alive in Christ.  Done instantly the moment we placed our faith in Christ and the Holy Spirit was placed inside of our bodies.  We were Transported from being dead in sin to being alive in Christ.

Now, since we have already been Transported from death to life it is now time to meet the Transformer, the Holy Spirit whose work it is to move us forward in our recovery and literally change us on the inside from who we have been our whole lives to who He wants us to be like – the Lord Jesus Christ.

This my friends is the work He is doing in the life of every believer.  Some are working with Him and being changed.  Some are working against Him and wallowing in their sin.  Some do not even know He is in them and are just trying their best to do the recovering Christian on themselves.  And we all know about a lone sheep, right?

A Lone Sheep is A Dead Sheep

Walk filled the Spirit today and in community with other believers who are helping one another.
