180 Basic Training # 9 – Battling Demonic Forces ~ blog

 In Daily Encouragement

The devil is real, he exists and is the ruler of this present age and the world system. Most of us believe that but do you realize that part of our battle in the here and now has to do with him and his demonic forces?

The “devil” is mentioned 32 times in the New Testament and his name – satan is used 50 times in the entire Bible.  Jesus referred to him as the father of lies and said to the scribes and Pharisees;

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”  John 8:44

Peter tells his readers in 1 Peter 5:8;

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Paul writes in Ephesians 6:11-12

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

We must understand that we because we are believers and followers of Christ, we are in a war.  We have an internal enemy, the flesh, and external enemy, demonic forces, and we live in a fallen world … or behind enemy lines.

We exist, like those members of the French Resistance did in WWII battling against a powerful enemy, behind enemy lines and we are urged to “be on the alert.” That is the bad news.

The good news is that we can live behind enemy lines and still survive, and even more be conquerors because of three things.

First – we have the Holy Spirit of God dwelling inside of our bodies. Greater is He who is in us that he who is in the world.  The Holy Spirit of God is not just a little more powerful than satan.  He is infinitely more powerful, and Jesus our Lord has been given authority over everything in this world.  We do not need to live in fear of demonic forces unless we give them ground in our lives to operate.

Second – We are told to daily put on the full armor of God so that we can stand strong in the strength of God’s power against these demonic forces.  I write about this in detail in my devotional 40 Days of Purity covering every piece of our armor, what it is, and how to use it.  You can click on the 40 Days of Purity link at the bottom of the page and purchase it from my Amazon Author page for only $2.99.  If you cannot afford it email me and I will send it to you for free.

Third – We can resist the devil and his demonic forces by living in a community of other believers who will stand strong with us and fight with us.  It is when we live in isolation and do not have the prayer support and encouragement from others that we are being cut from the herd and about to be devoured.

Listen, I do not believe that there is a devil behind every struggle we have in this life and I certainly do not live in fear of this enemy.  As long as I am being filled with the Spirit daily, walking in the Spirit moment by moment, putting on the full armor of God daily, and staying in touch with my community of other fighters, I will be protected from the evil one.

Often in the Bible God is referred to as our shield.  David wrote this in Psalm 18:1-3;

“I love You, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.”

We are told in the Bible that we are to resist the devil and eventually he will flee from us.  We are also told that greater is He who is in us than He who is in the world … infinitely greater is the Holy Spirit.

One of the reasons many remain in sexual sin is they have given the devil a foothold in their life through sexual sin.  That is why it is so important for all of us to rebuke sexual desires and want nothing to do with them.  If we are double-minded about this then we will still be vulnerable to their attacks.

I highly recommend you daily are putting on the full armor of God, daily be being filled and walking in the Spirit, and staying daily in communication with a team of other believers who will be able to stand with you and help you resist sexual sin. That is why we have Online Support Teams.

We are in a war that on our own we cannot win … but we cannot afford to lose.  So, use what God has given you and use it daily!
