Key Truths for Successful Deliverance ~ blog
Today I want to share with you some of the things I have found successful in dealing with any demonic harassment. These are just the basics but are a good place to begin.
You have to be ALL IN. – If you are holding back anything relative to the name or function of any demon harassing you it will not work. You can say you want him or them to leave you alone but if your heart is doubleminded and you are not fully committed to walking in purity, I believe you are still allowing a foothold or stronghold to remain.
James tells us that a double-minded person is unstable in all his ways. I am not saying you will never fall again … anybody who proclaims that is setting himself up. Remember;
Recovery is not Perfection it is making Progress
I have worked with hundreds of men in this recovery stuff. Unless you are completely serious about wanting to be done forever with this sin, perhaps cherishing it in your heart, I do not think the demonic powers must obey your command for them to leave you alone.
Have Others Praying with You. We do not have to fight this battle alone. If nobody is available, then go ahead and do it by yourself. However, the more the better in this case. Find someone you trust and who loves you and ask them to join you in praying.
If that is not so easily done because your sin is still secret, go to your pastor or a counselor. If you are on one of our Online Support Teams you could have a team of men praying with you and over you.
Be Filled with the Spirit. – He who is in you is greater than any demon. The Spirit has infinite power and He wants to help you in this process. So, invite Him to manifest Himself in any way that He desires.
Many people find that when they are trying to pray through demonic harassment it will be hard to concentrate and keep their mind focused. So, you might have to fight through distractions and ask Him to help you discern truth from lies. Jesus said that satan is the father of lies and the pitchfork does not fall far pitchfork place.
Do Not be Surprised by Your Feelings and Thoughts – Demons do have the power to impact your feelings and thoughts. They can accuse you of things or remind you of things just to keep you off track. Satan himself is called the Accuser of the Believers.
Revelations 12:10 reads;
“Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down.”
Some of his accusations you have listened to and believed for years. However, they are lies. What you are being accused of was probably a real event but what they are saying to you about it are lies.
For example, you are praying against demonic forces because you have committed a sexual sin. He will remind you of that sin and how horrible it was and then imply that you are some pathetic loser who God wants nothing to do with. Take those thoughts captive and throw them right back at them by reminding them that yes, you did commit that sin or sins, but that Christ’s death and the shedding of His blood have cleansed you forever and that you have been saved by grace and not of works.
Fasting Might be Necessary – Remember Jesus told his disciples this when they could not deliver a boy from a certain type of demon who kept throwing him in the fire to burn or the water to drown? Fasting is a way to show God you are serious. It can help you concentrate and have greater spiritual power. Prayer and fasting should be a regular part of our Christian experience.
I understand that this list is not complete and there are many books written on the subject. Some are good but many tend to get weird. One man I know and respect is Bill Perkins. I have sat with him through sessions as he worked on delivering people, and he is very knowledgeable and experienced in this area of ministry. His ministry is called Freedom Ministries.
Remember, we have been given the authority of Jesus Christ who is ruler over everything and has all authority in heaven and on earth and no power can stand against His power.
