Our Actions – His Transformation ~ blog
From the moment we were saved by grace through faith until the moment we die and go to heaven is the time God has given to us to learn and grow in our Christian Life. Imagine what life would be like if the moment we believe we are immediately taken to heaven. That would create some interesting situations.
First of all, there would be no Christians on earth. So, with no Christians, there would be no churches, no pastors, and no potlucks … and God knows how much we love our potlucks. However, we would not have to battle against sexual temptation because we would be immediately transferred from a fallen sin-filled world with demonic forces and our sinful nature … to heaven where there is no sin, no sin nature, and the only spirits would be good and holy angels.
However, obviously this is a ridiculous line of thinking. God leaves us here and He leaves us here for a purpose. That purpose is NOT so that we would discover how much we are deeply sinful and broken, although that does happen. Our purpose here is to be salt and light to the world.
Jesus said we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We are to be showing the world the love of God by taking actions to help others and share the gospel with those who are rotting in the black hole of sin and evil.
For Him to use us there are things HE must do to help us be salt and light. Also, there are things WE must do so that we are becoming transformed into more godly and Christ-like believers. Transformation is a slow and gradual process however; its results can be powerful and makes life worth living again after one has lived in isolation and sexual sin for so many years.
We have already looked at the truth that God is going to transform us, and we will end up being completely holy, with a perfect body that never sins, grows old, or gets diseased. He wants to do it in our lives here and now one day at a time. However, it is not automatic. Our transformation will depend on us taking action and doing the things God tells us to do.
Look at what Peter writes in 2 Peter 1;
“His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.”
The Lord has already given us everything we need to live a godly life. He has given it to us through a true knowledge of Him. However, if we do not work at deepening our true knowledge of Him and we continue to deepen a true knowledge of porn and sex guess what will happen. That’s right we will end up right where we find ourselves now. Sexually broken people living in fear and isolation and unable to stop the growing frequency and intensity of our sexual sin.
I know … there are no pictures in the Bible except maybe the maps in the back which seem to really lack appeal when compared to the visual stimulation of a sensual image online. But ask yourself … have you not seen enough already??? I know the lusts of our sinful nature are always wanting more. It creates cravings in us about what might we be able to see today that we did not see yesterday. But that appetite is insatiable and only leaves us wanting more.
This is the place we will remain in if we do not do something about it. Like the alcoholic who is not just wanting the drink to suppress their pain but now needs the drink to be able to feel normal. Life becomes so stressed and unmanageable unless we make our coffee into Irish coffee. And once we begin to need sex so that we can feel relaxed enough to go to sleep or to get through the day we are in the clutches of sexual addiction.
The solution??? Thank God that we do have a solution. Now there are many facets of our solutions that are individually based on who we are and what makes up who we are and where and what we have fallen into. However, here are three most important actions anyone entangled in sexual brokenness must do.
Develop and Maintain the daily disciplines God tells us we need.
End the isolation which allowed our addiction to only grown stronger.
Fight the battle daily within a community of others fighting the same battle.
If you can begin to follow these imperatives to living out the Christian life you will be adding to your faith things which will impact and transform your life. Note what Peter writes about immediately following the passage we looked at above.
“For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.”
Do you see what God is offering to us??? He will help us to become partakers of the divine nature. Meaning we can become godly people. We can escape the corruption that is all around us in this world by lust.
And I promise you as one who has been walking this out for 14+ years … partaking of the divine nature is so much better than another fall into sexual sin that only brings some relief for a few moments. Instead, we can be being strengthened and being Christ-like. There is nothing better than that this side of heaven.
