Dealing with the Demonic ~ blog

 In Daily Encouragement

I don’t think it is as difficult today to convince people that there are real demonic forces that are working against us.  There will always be a part of our “enlightened society” who will not believe in the supernatural that is until it is too late, and they arrive in hell only to be claimed as satan’s prize and he welcomes them to their eternal damnation.

However, if anyone reads the Gospels written by the men who were with Jesus 24/7 while He was here as a man, they will see that even Jesus had to deal with demonic powers and therefore we will have to deal with them as well. Then again, there was the movie Ghost Busters which opened our eyes to the reality of evil powers in this world, but I digress …

Jesus said a number of things about satan and the demonic powers in this world. Right from the beginning we see Jesus going one-on-one with satan himself after Jesus prepared for the battle with 40 days of fasting in the desert.

Here are just a few of the things Jesus spoke while here on earth that should inform us about this enemy we face.

He is the one who comes along and keeps the word of God from being understood by snatching up the seeds of the Gospel when they are scattered in the world. People do not believe because the devil keeps them from being able to grasp or understand the truth.

Paul mentions this in 2 Corinthians 4:3-4

“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,  in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

Jesus also said these words to those who were following Him…not disciples but casual onlookers hoping to see a miracle or get a free meal;

“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

So, clearly, we have this enemy who is a murderer, there is no truth in him, and everything he speaks are lies. We are also told that he is like a hungry lion prowling around looking for someone to devour. However, if we resist him, we learn from James 4 this truth;

“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you Draw near to God and He will draw near to you… Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”

So, the devil is real and according to Ephesians 6 he has an army of demons specifically designed to make our lives difficult.  satan is the commander in chief but he has his generals and admirals, his foot soldiers, and grunts who are out to make our lives miserable.  They are around us waiting for opportunities to tempt us and draw us back into sin.

The great news is that Jesus has given us the power and authority of His name.  Because we have been placed in Christ and are His ambassadors, we can call upon Him and the things He has given us to be able to defeat these enemies.

I know…I know you have called out to Him and have not been delivered or healed. You are still struggling and falling on a regular basis even beginning to doubt is He is real.  So, let me ask you a very important question;

Do you think the problem lies with Him or You?

Could your lack of progress in your own recovery be because you have failed to do what the Bible clearly tells us we all need to do in order to survive in this sin and porn-filled world?

Are you on a team of other believers who are helping one another on a daily basis?

Are you putting on the Full Armor of God so that you can stand strong in His might?

Are you offering your body to God daily as a living sacrifice?

Are you asking the Spirit to daily fill and empower you to walk in the Spirit?

Are you growing in your knowledge of His Word and meditating on His truth?

Are you claiming your position in Christ and by His authority commanding demons to leave you alone?

If not, then you are not trying to follow the teachings God has given us to live a pure life.  You want to fruit of holiness but are unwilling to do the work it requires. God has given us everything we need to live a godly life, but we cannot if we remain isolated and continue to be destroyed by this world, our flesh, and the devil.

God has not left you alone and without help. He wants us to live pure lives and has given us everything we need. So, when will you step out of your darkness and into the light of true fellowship with Christian brothers who will fight with you, lift you up when you fall, and will even carry you until such a time as you can walk again and perhaps start to help someone else.
