The Progress of a Good Recovery – blog
I thought today I would give you the Big Picture and Small Picture of your recovery from sexual brokenness. The Big Picture is easy. Your Recovery from being dead in sin and separated from God has only 3 phases…
Phase # 1 – Born dead in sin and separated from God. It begins the day you were born and ends the day you became born again.
Phase # 2 – Begins the day you became born again and ends the moment you die or are taken to heaven to be with the Lord upon His return to earth.
Phase # 3 – Begins the day you die or are taken to heaven to be with the Lord upon His return to earth and ends … like never…like goes on forever.
Actually Phase # 1 began before the creation of the world when we are told God chose us and adopted us to be one of His children. This is a truly wonderful thought because it means that we didn’t stumble into the eternal relationship by chance, but that God has had a plan for us before He created the universe.
“For He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love, He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will…”
So, our salvation is in accordance with His Will and His Plan. Unlike kids choosing up sides for a game of kickball and you are the last one left, so He has to pick you. But he selected you to be holy and blameless in His sight and moved by LOVE He decided that you would be adopted into His family…and that choice brought Him pleasure!!!
We will all see this clearly when we enter heaven and are no longer under the influence of this world and the lies we have been told by the devil. At that time, we will be “glorified”, and our bodies made immortal and perfected forever.
Between these to eternal realities, before time began and when time will never end is this moment we call our life. Not just our physical life but our moment by moment being in the present and living between those other two worlds. And when you think about it we have the eternal past behind us and the eternal future ahead of us and this moment in which we are living is just a split second of time that is constantly changing.
What we want is for our present to be living in the center of God’s will for our lives and on the road of our journey of becoming more holy. However, many of us think about this in the wrong way. We see ourselves as having left the path God had for us and fallen into sexual addiction and hoping to get back to the path God has for us.
This way of thinking gives us the impression we have left the straight and narrow path and are in danger of falling out of God’s will and being kicked out of His family. Satan will use that to pour further lies into our minds and causing us great fear and anxiety so we might give up completely and choose a life of wallowing in our sexual sin.
What if our lives are not us trying to stay on this narrow path with us in danger of being severed from God and going back to being dead in sin? What if our life is more of a journey going from being dead in sin, made alive by His Grace, and now traveling from east to west? Going from one end of our country to the other end where there are all kinds of paths we might be on but the most important thing is making progress by continuing to head in the right direction?
If we get sidetracked and take an exit because we were distracted by a billboard advertising sexual sin or an adult bookstore, we don’t get thrown out of the car or put off the bus. We do lose progress, there are consequences, and potentially very negative things that can happen. However, the journey continues, and every day is a fresh new Starting Line.
God has not saved us so that He can sit there and watch us struggle with our sins. He saved us in love so that He can transform us into godlier and Christ-like people. So, as we are told in the Scriptures, we need to be…
“But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
How about you today? Are you forgetting with lies behind you? Confessing your sins daily will help you do this. I try and do that every day as quickly as I can. I want to get up every day and run from my fresh Startling Line towards the goal for the prize. But if you are wallowing in your sin, giving in to the desires of your flesh and the porn of the day calling your name you will have momentary pleasure followed by momentous pain.
You will not be being transformed by the Spirit because you are walking in your flesh and with the flesh will come the fruits of the flesh instead of the fruits of the Spirit. And one of the biggest reasons this is happening in your life day after day after day? Is because you are remaining on the A-train … Alone, Afraid, and Ashamed.
For the love of the Lord get off that Train!!! Join us on Our Bus. Get off the A-Train and get on the B-Bus where you will find yourself BeLoved, BeLonging, and BeBlessed.
