Who You Gonna Call??? ~ blog

 In Daily Encouragement

I love to use my Subaru Power stroke 3100 PSI Power Washer.  I love to fire it up to clean my driveway and sidewalks.  Next will be the deck and even the gutters and roof of the garage.  I like to think outside the box, so I even use it on my lawn to clear off the sticks, acorns, leaves, and moss from my backyard.  It’s tricky to get the junk off without destroying the grass but when your backyard has massive oak trees over it there is little sunshine and a lot of junk.

However, the real beauty of power washing is getting the algae off the sidewalks.  You can pass it over at about 4 inches and blow off the loose stuff but to get into the concrete and make it completely clean you must have it about 1-2 inches off the surface and the power does its magic.  Just be sure to not try this with sandals on because it is good at removing skin as well as algae.  I speak from experience.

Sexual sin is like algae.  There can be just a little of it in your heart and it grows.  You cannot keep just a little tucked away in the corner because it spreads and becomes more and more evident in your thoughts and eventually in your interactions with others.  Maybe that is why we are told in Ephesians 5:3

“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.”

David prayed this way in Psalm 139;

“Search me, God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.”

You know that the Spirit of God lives inside of you.  He is the Holy Spirit and holiness is His specialty.  Certainly, God the Father and God the Son are holy as well. But I find it interesting that only the Spirit is given that adjective before his name.  Holiness is what the new creation longs for.  Sin is what the flesh seeks.  Holiness comes from the Holy Spirit and sin comes from the flesh or sin nature.

We understand our flesh is right there with us and is repeatedly trying to catch our attention and lure us into temptation and sin.  However, the Holy Spirit is right there with you as well.  He sees what you are looking at.  He knows your thoughts and the longings for sexual release you are feeling. When you are hungry you eat and when you are horny you want sex.

These urges and desires need to be surrendered to the Holy Spirit and we must take action toward something good or we will be pulled back to what is sinful. I have found over the years that based on knowing my history I can predict my future as far as temptation goes. I mean if you really think about you know when temptation is going to happen in your day.

This is why it is important to schedule your time. For example, if it is right after you get home and are alone you are strongly tempted then you need to have something planned for you to do instead of grabbing a snack, sitting with your phone, tablet, or computer and just checking out what is new on social media.

Or, perhaps, it is after everyone has gone to bed that you are most tempted. The temptation of those hours of being alone in the darkness is a perfect breeding ground for a fall. So, the solution is simple…start going to bed with your wife or do not stay up and alone after everyone else has hit the hay.

The Bible compares us to sheep and sheep are pretty dumb animals. They need a shepherd and they need to be in the presence of the shepherd. Have you ever even thought at your alone time is the time when you can be with the Lord?

I know alone time has become temptation time. It is escape time. It is feed the flesh time and get our sexual fix time. So, if that is going to change you have to take the steps for it to change. Not just lying to yourself again and believe you will change when the next time of free time rolls around. But taking the steps to ensure you will do what you say you want to do.

How does anyone do that?  You find someone outside of yourself and ask for them to help you. Maybe it is having a phone call with them at certain times during your week when you are weak. Texting someone who knows of your struggle and having them pray for you.

Temptation is always at its strongest when we are alone. We easily convince ourselves that it is not a big deal yet finding ourselves going back to our sexual sins only to feel terrible afterward.  When are we ever going to learn…

Once more is never once more!!!
