Are You Sick and Tired of Your Sexual Sin Yet??? ~ blog
Yesterday, in Romans 6 we learned that every day we have the choice who will be our Master. There are only two choices, so this is rather simple. Choice # 1 is to let Sin be our Master. Choice # 2 is to choose Christ to be our Master. And Oh … by the way…if we do not choose Christ to be our master, we are by default choosing sin to be our master. Notice what Paul writes about what is down the road we on which we choose to travel.
“Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?”
Now, this might sound like an overstatement, but I do not think it is…sounds like a life or death decision. If we choose sin to be our master the result is death. What does that mean? I know from my own years living addicted to sexual sin that it did not cause me physical death otherwise I would not be sitting here writing to you. So, what kind of death is sin bringing upon us?
If I am a slave to the master I choose and I do not at least offer my body to God daily, asking for the filling of His Spirit, and putting on the full armor of God before I begin my day then I am choosing sin to be my master by default. And this is true because of the reality that my sinful nature is wanting me to sin, my world around me is filled with temptations of visible sexual images, and demonic forces are always there encouraging me to make the wrong choice.
It is because of these 3 realities that living a Christ-like life is so difficult and I need help from the Holy Spirit, AND a Christian community around me to help me begin to make the right choices and be able to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the desires of the flesh.
So, your alarm goes off but the demon sitting on your chest convinces you to hit the snooze button. After all…having the time to meet with God every single day isn’t really all that important is it? Then there is no time for God or a sensible breakfast with the energy and nutrition you need to fuel your body. A couple of donuts will suffice, and you will counterbalance that bad choice with a salad for lunch…but no, the double bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate shake is too tempting.
Already, you have starved yourself spiritually and feel guilty for that, you are stuffed from lunch and are semi-comatose after lunch. Your work suffers so you get yelled at by the boss and you leave for home frustrated from work, hating your boss and yourself, only to walk through the door to a house that is a mess and a wife who is exhausted.
So, what do you imagine you are going to want to do once everyone is in bed? Dive into the porn pool again for some quick relief and before you know it 2 hours have passed and you have tried to end a lousy day with a pleasurable orgasm and off you go to bed feeling defeated and condemned, creating the excuse of needing to sleep in the next day as well. Rinse and repeat the cycle of sexual addiction.
As long as you remain isolated in your sexual addiction there is very little chance this addictive behavioral pattern is going to change. How many more years will you continue to lose this battle?
The passage makes it extremely clear. Choose sin to be your master and death will be the result. That could mean death to your marriage, death to your family, and even death to your career if you are a pastor like I was. Sin turns all of us into selfish people who are looking to take what we want and as we continue to suck on the straw of sexual sin, we begin to experience that straw sucking the life out of us.
Then we read in Romans 6:17-19;
“But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.”
So how exactly do we put to death these deeds of the flesh so that we are not dying in sin but living in righteousness? We present the members of our bodies to God every single day. We realize that our bodies are not our own, they have been purchased by Christ by His death so that in Him we can have life instead of death.
Are you doing that on a daily basis? If not, then in this battle that you cannot afford to lose you will continue to lose until death enters the relationships you have with family and friends.
However, if you choose life, a life coming from the Holy Spirit who dwells inside of you. A life that is being filled with the Spirit and you daily are surrendering all of you to all of Him and asking Him to fill you, guide you, and influence you. Then, He brings the transformational power to change your heart and mind.
Plus, you will seek out a community where you will find like-minded men and women who are fighting this battle together. Daily offering help and support to one another and finding strength in numbers instead of pathetic weakness in isolation.
I invite you to come out of the shadows and into the light of our Online Support Team communities where there is no condemnation and a team of other men helping one another achieve what none of us could experience in isolation.
