Is the Pressure Getting to You Yet ??? ~ blog
Discouragement sucks! And I think I am living in the most discouraging times of my entire life relative to what is happening in our world today. Major waves of s–t keep flooding our minds with bad news and I fear these hurricanes of fear and doubt are not going to let up soon. In fact, it seems like there are 3 major issues threatening our world today.
Hurricane Covid-19 seems to be gaining strength. Just when we were hoping things were settling down and opening back up the daily count yesterday in the USA was over 52,789 NEW Confirmed cases. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/07/02/coronavirus-live-updates-us/)
There are crazy rumors and conspiracy theories flying about and some are even believing that this is all a hoax. I mean how deep to you have to bury your head in the sand to believe that this is not really happening. In fact, the other hurricanes hitting our shores only prove as facts that all this sickness and death statistics are true.
Hurricane Unemployment hit hardest in late March with over 14% or the workforce out of work. That is decreased down to 11.1% as things began to try and open up again in June but as employment increased so did a remarkable increase in Covid-19 infections because people who are crazy from isolation and social distancing gathered without masks.
Hurricane Political Unrest seems to be building up to be the mother of all hurricanes which will only be building strength up till election day on November 3rd. That is 124 days away and be prepared to see troubling political advertisements seeking to scare you to death depending on who gets elected. Never has more been at stake and I fear the mudslinging will be worse than we have ever seen before.
So, with all that bad news, and that is only getting into about half of it, it seems likely that you are feeling you must isolate, social distance, and hunker down in your home. Where you probably have a place set up to be alone and online. With all this discouragement and bad news flying around porn and sexual sin beckons our names and promises an exciting escape from our reality and into a place of powerful sexual fulfillment.
I often get emails from my readers who are so sick and tired of their sexual sin that they seem like they are at the end of their rope. If that is you, I want to encourage you today by using truth to battle the feelings with which you are struggling. Let’s begin with a real story from the Gospel of Mark 4:35-41.
Jesus has told his disciples that they needed to get in the boat and go to the other side of the sea of Galilee. He had just been teaching them and a local crowd some parables about soil, seeds, and faith. As they are crossing the sea, a violent storm with gale force winds came up. That is wind blowing about 50 mph. That strong wind caused the water to become very choppy, and the waves were coming in over the sides of the boat, and the boat was filling up with water.
Now I don’t know about you, but I have been on a sailboat in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay, and I know how that feels. You feel like a little cork being knocked from all sides and you wish, like the captain of the boat in Jaws said; “We need a bigger boat.”
Sometimes that what temptation feels like. We don’t want to give in. We want to resist and stand strong against sexual temptation but it just keeps coming at us from all sides until we feel we cannot resist anymore and then we look at porn and act out.
The disciples were feeling their weakness and the precariousness of their situation when someone remembered that Jesus was with them. Amazingly He is asleep on the stern or rear part of the boat. They wake Him with a foolish statement, which people tend to do when they are afraid. And say to Him;
“Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
I can almost see Jesus putting His head in His hands and shaking it back and forth thinking; “When will these guys learn that if they are with me, everything is going to be OK!” So, Jesus stands up and says three words;
“Hush, be still.”
Like a parent saying to a child; “Shut up and sit down!” Then we read that the wind completely stopped, and the Sea of Galilee became perfectly calm. It is totally quiet, and the water is like a sheet of glass.
We need to remember that when we are being buffeted by waves of temptation. We need to remember that Jesus IS WITH US! The Holy Spirit Himself dwells inside of our bodies, and it is He who has the power to overcome the desires of the flesh. Say this to yourself 100 times; “Jesus is with me, and He will help me!” Instead of sitting there afraid of sexual temptation, get up and reach up to God. Then reach out to others who will help and pray for you.
“Be still and know that He is God!”
I strongly encourage all of us to take time to be still in the presence of our Lord and remind ourselves from the truth of His Word that our Heavenly Father and All-Mighty Lord are in control and we need to be doing our best at helping one another through these storms.
