Top 10 Truths You Need to Know and Understand ~ blog

 In Daily Encouragement

All of us know we have an enemy who is both powerful and evil. One of the main weapons he uses against us is lying to us. He lies to us about God. He lies to us about ourselves. His efforts are all aimed to discourage you from growing in your recovery. The knights of his roundtable are Lust, Anger, Fear, Shame, Discouragement, Self-Loathing, Hopelessness, Disgust, and Self-Hatred. I am sure there are others, but you get the idea.

One of the most important things we can do to help our recovery is to defeat these lies with knowing the truth. The truth about God. The truth about ourselves. And the truth about our world, our flesh, and the devil. So, I am going to give you my Top 10 Truths that we need to not only know and believe but remind ourselves daily until they are woven into our thinking to defeat the lies we have heard and might be believing.

Truth # 1 – God’s Love for You is Unconditional and Eternal.

He has always loved you. He is loving you now. He will love you forever.

How many times have you been tempted to think that God has stopped loving you? This is usually the result of us going back to porn and sexual sin so many times after we promised God that we would stop. We wrongly think of God in human terms. We imagine that His patience wears thin and He is done with our continuing failures. So, let me ask you a question;

Do you believe that God knows all things?

Do you believe that God has always known all things?

I believe that since God is the creator and sustainer of the universe there is nothing He does not know completely. That being true then He has always known you even before He created the universe and brought time into existence. Note what Paul writes in Ephesians 1;

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—”

This passage is telling us an amazing truth about God and about us. God, before He created the world, decided to choose you. He did this “IN LOVE”. He determined beforehand to adopt you as a son or daughter, and all of this was in accordance with His pleasure and will. In other words, God not only chose you because He loved you, but He was delighted to choose you. It was something He did not because He had to but because He wanted to. It was His will and it brought Him pleasure to do it.

Now zoom forward past the creation of the universe for thousands of years. Past the Garden of Eden, the Fall, the growing population and their sinfulness, Noah and the Flood…or the reset button. Past Abraham, Moses, the Promised Land up to the birth of Jesus.

God our Father allowed sin to enter His creation so that He might show us or demonstrate to us how much He loves us…by dying for our sins. As we read in Romans 5:6-8;

“For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Now here is the key question. When did God know you and everything that would happen in your life?  At what time did God realize you were going to struggle with sexual sin and porn? Well, that answer is simple. If He is God, then He knows all things and He has always known all things. So, before the universe was created, He knew all things and that means He knew you. He knew everything you would do, say, and even think.

Would that not include all of your sins?  Of course, it does. But guess what?  Because He loved you even in spite of all your sins and failures, He chose you anyway, and He decided to adopt you as one of His children. And it was according to His pleasure and will.

This is the shield of faith we all need to have in place every day.  If we begin to doubt God’s love for us, we allow fear and doubt into our thinking. Listen, God chose you because He decided to love you and His love is forever. It has been and never will be based on our ability to live a pure life. His love is unconditional…there are no strings attached.

Listen to these words Jesus spoke to His disciples;

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”

And let me end with the words of Paul in Romans 8:38-39

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Because God has chosen you before the creation of the universe, demonstrated His Love for you through the death of Jesus on the cross for all of your sins, has adopted you to be one of His children, has sealed you with the Holy Spirit, and absolutely nothing can separate us from His love I believe it is absolutely true that…

God has always loved you.

God will always love you.

And God is loving you now.

Defeat the lies of our enemy by reminding yourself every day that you are a beloved child of God and that He has made you a member of His family forever.
