Absolute Essentials # 5 – The Power of Daily ~ blog

Do you really want to begin to experience being set free from this sin that has so easily entangled you? I believe many of you do want that and for any number of reasons. You may be separated from your wife because she had the immediate reaction of demanding that you leave. Or you promised her that you would stop but you didn’t and so have broken her trust again. Maybe you have even lost your job or your ministry.

There is one simple test that will show if you really want to stop this addiction which may have even become a daily need in your life. And that simple test is this…

Will you do what you need to do to stop sexually sinning DAILY?

This is where real transformation happens. Freedom is not something you just fall into as the result of making more promises when you are in desperation. Desperate people will say and promise anything at the moment. So, after you have tried all the “simple solutions” and found them lacking…if you are ready to do whatever it takes then the good news is it can be accomplished by implementing the Absolute Essentials I have been teaching you.

Let’s Review…

# 1 – We begin every day offering our body to God as a living sacrifice as we are commanded to do in Romans 12:1 and Romans 6:13-14…

# 2 – We begin every day by asking the Holy Spirit to fill us and influence us throughout the day.

# 3 – We learn to walk by means of the Holy Spirit allowing Him to lead and guide us.

# 4 – We must pray on the full armor of God every day and know what that means.

These are not the “4 Magic Steps for Recovery.” There is nothing magic about them. They are simply the commands we find in the Bible of the things all Christians are to be doing daily if we are going to be followers of Jesus and to be able to overcome our sinful flesh, our demonic enemy, and the sinful world in which we live.

So how can I motivate you to begin to do these fairly simple things daily? Well…two things come to my mind. You need to be motivated…highly motivated by what you have to lose and even more importantly what you have to gain. Let’s start with what you have to lose because fear is a powerful motivator.

What you have probably already lost is your self-respect. You might be filled with self-loathing. You are terribly ashamed over the things you have done and scared to death of who might find out. Your addiction has grown in frequency making it more difficult to hide as you sacrifice needed sleep and not doing the work you are being paid to do. Is that a good place to be? Absolutely not…you are probably miserable and getting desperate.

Others have lost their job, resigned from their ministry, blown up their marriage, and the spouse and children that they still love are done with you and never want to see you again. It may even bring you and your loved ones into financial desperation with bankruptcy around the bend.

Now, let’s talk about what you have to gain. What can be the results of repentance? What can you begin to see God doing in a life that is daily offered to Him and what some real spiritual work can produce in you?

I cannot express to you how much better it is to be progressing down the road to recovery and the things God has for His children who are working at learning and doing the simple spiritual disciplines He has given us to do.

When I was exhausted and feeling like I was just trying to exist in the desert my sin had led me into, I was desperate and God showed me this passage… 

“…till the Spirit is poured on us from on high,
and the desert becomes a fertile field,
and the fertile field seems like a forest.”

Sure…it takes a lot of work to begin to find the freedom God has for you. It is the process of walking in the light, doing the biblical basics God has told us to do, and slowly change begins to happen. God is not watching you and angry about your past…He is hopeful for your future. He wants to bless you and give you a life of strength and power to overcome sexual sin. He is waiting for you every single day to start your day with Him, doing the four things I have taught you to do which are straight from His Word.

Here are the words of three of the Apostles of Jesus who are giving us a glimpse of what is possible for us to experience in our Christian lives…

Paul writes in Ephesians 3:19…

“…and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

James writes in James 1:4…

“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Peter writes in 2 Peter 1:4…

“…He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires…”

What would it be like to…

  • Be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God?
  • Be mature and complete not lacking anything?
  • Participate in the divine nature having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires?

I tell you what it feels like…a million times better than you feel stuck in this sin in which you have become entangled.
