It seems like for the last year one of the biggest topics in the news is what they call The Big Lie. And what is so amazing to me is that it continues in spite of all the evidence against it.
However, I believe there is a bigger lie than what is being called The Big Lie. So, I will leave The Big Lie alone…not wanting to ruffle anyone’s feathers with political haggling and talk about The Bigger Lie which I believe is really The Biggest Lie EVER.
It has been whispered in your ear so many times you cannot keep count. You may even hear it every day and multiple times a day. It is a lie that you not only hear but you feel it as well. And that lie and those feelings are intended to immobilize you, creating fear and stress so that you will feel the need to make yourself feel better with another hour or so looking at porn.
For a while, you do not hear the lie because your mind is being flooded with the chemicals that cause you to feel good and creating great pleasure. The pleasure builds and builds until you medicate yourself with another orgasm in your little fantasy room and receive a few moments or hours of pleasure…only to be followed with more guilt, more shame, more fear, and as time passes you will feel worse than you did before.
So, what is this Biggest Lie that we have all heard and even believed for so long…
You will Never be Able to Stop looking at Porn!!!
I know that when we look at our history of feeble efforts to stop and all the while maintaining our secret shame, we have good evidence that it just might be impossible. That is what every addict feels whether it is porn, alcohol, drugs, gambling, or food. Or any combination of these things.
Sure, there are times when we really feel the need to stop. We become so beaten down and begin to be careless which causes our addiction to be discovered. We will promise ourselves and our loved ones repeatedly…but without help, we are always drawn back into our addiction.
Well…I am here to tell you that it is not impossible to stop looking at porn because I have experienced freedom from my addictive behavior of 40 years as over the past 16 years I have done what I learned from the Bible and studying addictive behaviors both in the Christian and Secular worlds of knowledge.
Here is one thing I know for certain will be the experience of all of us finally finding freedom. I can even tell you the day it will happen, and you will never ever struggle with sexual sin again. That will be the same for all of us and will be the day we die.
At the point of death, our body stops all functions. Our hearts stop beating and our brain stops thinking. Now you might have witnessed the 2nd thing at times in your life where you think it has already stopped based on the dumb actions you have done and wondered if you were not already brain dead…but I digress.
However, Scripture clearly tells us that when this earthly life is over…our heavenly life begins. Our flesh or sinful nature dies with our body, and we will never ever sin again…forever.
Paul says it this way…
“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
We tend to believe that because we are still struggling with sexual sin then God must be finished with us. That is the ridiculous lie because when God chose to save us, He knew full well all the sins all of us would ever commit. But He chose us anyway to become permanent members of His family and caused us to become Born Again…
So that He Could Help us Stop Living in Sin!!!
And for that to happen there are two things we all need to know if we are going to grow in gaining freedom from sexual sin.
First – He has sealed us with the Holy Spirit – When we became born again and received the gift of eternal life granting to us a salvation by faith we were sealed with the Holy Spirit.
“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”
That’s right…it means exactly what it says. We have all been sealed by the Spirit. God has branded us with something permanent which not only proves that we are His…but that the 3rd member of the Trinity now actually dwells inside of us.
And since we are sealed with the Spirit and our bodies are His temple then the power we all need to stop feeding any of our addictions dwells inside of us through Him. I would highly encourage you to get my eBook on this… Being Transformed by the Spirit…link below. Just email me if you cannot afford it and I will send you the pdf file for free.
However, we need something else in addition to the Spirit because we are so good at rationalization and compromise and have given in to our lusts for years if not decades.
Second – We need a Community of others to help us.
Which we will discuss tomorrow…
If you are not daily asking the Spirit to fill you and help you walk in the Spirit you will not begin to have a solid recovery that will take you where you want to be. And if you are looking for a community to help you…we have one for you…just email me.
