Gotten Any Snakes of Scorpions Lately ~ blog

Have you given up hoping and praying that God would heal you of your sexual brokenness? Some of you may have prayed this hundreds of times but it hasn’t happened. Are you not praying the prayer correctly? Do you need to be praying in the King James Version? Maybe if you got down on your knees weeping and begging for deliverance might be what it takes.

It is interesting to me how false our thinking can be when we are in the clutches of our addiction and have become desperate. We can feel our Father no longer loves us because we have not been good enough nor had the strength to stop on our own. Sure, it can seem that God has gone from an eternal loving Father to a drill sergeant making your life tough to keep you in line…but He isn’t because that is how He works.

It is easy for us to feel that way because God has not given us the strength to stop and walk away from our brokenness.

Jesus clears up their twisted thinking when He told His disciples in Luke 11:9-10…

“So, I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

That sounds to me that whatever we need and whenever we need it, we just must ask. By asking we will receive. By seeking we will find. By knocking doors will be opened to us. We all probably have those verses memorized…even if we have stopped believing they are true.

However, in the next 3 verses, Jesus says something that is remarkable…

“Which of your fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Now there just might be some horrible fathers out there who harm their kids. And if that was true for you, I am deeply sorrowful that you experienced that in your childhood. But when it comes to God as a Father, He will never be like that. He does discipline us as a loving father disciplines His children but seeks not to harm us.

Now I know there are some terrible fathers out there that can even be abusive and dangerous…but Jesus is talking about our Heavenly Father who has loved us for all eternity past and will love us for all eternity future. So, Jesus is making the point that God our Father is never going to give you a snake if you ask for a fish…or if we ask for an egg, He will never give us a scorpion.

And here is His point…those of us who are fathers in this life we know how to give good gifts to our children when they ask. But with God as our Father…hold on because this is really huge…coming from the lips of Jesus who knows a lot about our Father God…if we even though we are evil know how to give good gifts to our children…

HOW MUCH MORE WILL OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN

GIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT TO THOSE WHO ASK HIM!!!

Now the great news for us is that we did not even have to ask for the Holy Spirit to be given to us. When we became believers…at that very moment here is what happened…

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”

Our Father not only gave us the Holy Spirit when we believed…but He SEALED us with the Spirit. To seal something is to mark it as your personal property and is a sign of ownership. And because we are sealed with the Spirit…He is the GUARANTEE of our INHERITANCE in heaven.

Now, let’s apply these truths to our issue of dealing with our sexual brokenness. Despite all we have done sexually in our lives…or how deeply we have fallen into sexual sin…God, our Father has both given His Spirit to us and sealed us with the Spirit as HIS GUARANTEE of our inheritance to come in heaven.

He has already given us the Holy Spirit. He has already sealed us with the Holy Spirit…now listen carefully…

It is by the means of the Holy Spirit that we can begin to experience freedom from our sexual brokenness. He is in us. We are sealed by Him…and it is His desire to not only help us stop sinning sexually but since He is God…He is both ready and able to do it.

Knowing this makes what we read in Galatians 5 so very important…

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will

not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

So, do you want to stop failing and falling back into sexual sin? There are absolutely two things we all must do and it helps if they are done daily.

First – Daily ask for the Holy Spirit to FILL you. What that means is to ask Him…since He dwells right there in your body…to guide and influence you in your actions and decisions you will be faced with making today…and every day. I go into this in detail in my eBook about being transformed by the Spirit by the link below this email.

Second – Find a team of other Christian men who are in this battle…and the odds are good…it could probably be any men you know…to join with you in working together to fight this battle as a Team or Unit…instead of continuing to lose this battle in your isolation.

We have men all over the world getting on our Online Support Teams and finding the help and the strength to start walking out of their sexual addictions…and we have room for you!
