Are We Healed Yet???

Have you ever been in the car with your family and had one or all of the kids ask…

Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?

Kids hate long car rides. It helps if the destination is Disneyland or Wally World but if it is over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house, we go…well not so much.

So, how long does it take to experience freedom from our sexual addiction? It would be great if we could put it on a chart and be able to measure our progress…or at least know when we cross the finish line.

I think almost everyone who is in this battle would like it to be instant. We can have instant coffee to go with our instant breakfast of instant oatmeal. Thanks to Covid we can be at our work in an instant by going online…but we do not want everything to be instant. If your favorite team is playing, would you just want to know the final score…or watch the game?

Things that take time to achieve seem to have more value than instantly getting what you are wanting. When something takes time, we tend to value it more because it costs us more of our time and energy.

However, when it comes to having freedom from our sexual addiction or brokenness, we can want it instantly but that is probably not going to be the case. Typically I get requests from men and women who are addicted and want help about 40 new people a month. Some find help and information to use in their recovery and stay subscribed learning more and more. Others are looking for a quick fix and give up on us when they discover it is going to take time and work. Today 2780 people will receive this message.

Once they discover that it is going to take time and effort, some leave to find the person or program offering an instant fix. I call it the Zap Trap. If they cannot be Zapped and changed quickly, they move on looking for what they will probably not be able to find. They want a quick deliverance…instant purity. They want to have God allow them to keep their sexual desires for their present or future spouse…but to keep that desire only for them as long as they both shall live.

However, once they taste the fruit of sexual sin, they find it very hard to stop having the cravings for sexual sin, and over time they have become addicted and unable to stop.

Now please do not get me wrong…healing from God is always a possibility and, in fact, is going to happen for every one of God’s children when three things happen. We no longer have our flesh or sinful nature dwelling within us. We no longer are in a place where we must deal with demonic temptations. And when we no longer have any access to anything having to do with sexual sin.

In other words…all three of those issues disappear the day we die and go to heaven. We receive a new and pure body with no sin nature. We will be in a place where there are no demonic forces. And we will be in a place where no evil is allowed to exist. That place is called heaven and we will be there perfected once for all eternity.

Until such a time comes for us, we find ourselves with the internal enemy of our flesh. The external enemy of demonic powers and living in this fallen world that now offers us porn and sex almost anytime we want it.

So…how do we live today being behind enemy lines with an addiction that seems impossible to overcome and of which we are greatly ashamed? Well…I think it will be helpful to look at the healing God has already done in our lives and the resources He has given to us to begin to experience freedom from sexual sin from what He has already done and will do.

The healing God has already done…which you may not be aware of…is that He has taken you as a spiritually dead individual, living in sin and following the ways and lusts of this world and He has resurrected you to a new life. Please do not minimize the importance of this healing. We all were once dead in our sins and separated from God…but now…

WE ARE ALIVE IN CHRIST!!!

And because that has happened to us our eternal destination has gotten a serious upgrade. We are no longer separated from God but have been adopted into His family and there is nothing that can separate us from His love…see Romans 8:38-39…

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

We have been given a new and eternal life by the grace and mercy of our Father…and He knew the mess we were in…and remain in while living on earth. He knew of your addiction to porn and sex…and He saved you so that He can transform you into a more Christ-like person. HE knew of all your sin, past, present, and future. Before He saved you. And your salvation is not dangling by the thread of your being able to make yourself holy.

Some of that can happen in the here and now…but regardless of how long we have or how much we are experiencing it will be completed for all eternity the moment we step into heaven.

That my friend is true for every one of us who have been born again by the Spirit of God. We were dead in our sins and now we are alive in Christ…and that change is momentous healing that we have already received.

Tomorrow…we will look at the healing that can be ours as we live here on earth with all its temptations and addictions. We will learn not only the battle we are in but also what God has given to us so that we, on this earth and in this life…can stand strong in the strength of His mighty power.
