The Prayer of Confession

Here is the first of the Prayers for Purity. It all starts with confession. By the way … I am speaking to about 100 men at Vineyard Columbus this morning on Honoring Our Wife. Appreciate you prayers that God will touch men’s hearts.

I do not want there to be any un-confessed sin in my life that might hinder the work God wants to do in my life today. You cannot go in two directions at once. You cannot be drawing closer to God and still be pursuing sin. Yet, in our fallen human state there are sins we commit everyday. Small slips lead to big falls so confessing even the small slips are important to our recovery.

Therefore I pray… Dear Lord I do not want there to be any un-confessed sin in my life today that might hinder your working in me today. So please search me O God and see if there are any wicked ways in me.

(Wait and listen for the Holy Spirit to show you anything you need to confess. Whatever he brings to mind confess it to Him as sin and thank Him that you are forgiven and cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Do not beat yourself up. Just confess, thank Him for forgiveness and move on.)

Thank you Lord that you paid for my sins on the cross and that I have complete forgiveness in you. For your word says if we confess our sins you are faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

*Ps. 66:18-20 – “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!”

Ps, 139:23-24 – “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.*
